Therese Malvar on streaming of her indie films: “Maybe sa ibang mga tao they're not used to films like these, but I hope others will give it a try and see a different taste of films in the Philippines.”

Two indie films of award-winning Kapuso actress Therese Malvar, 'Distance' and '1-2-3 Gasping for Air', will be streaming on Netflix beginning September 3.

Therese Malvar has two films streaming on Netflix this September

In an interview with GMANetwork.com, Therese said the airing of her indie films on Netflix came as a pleasant surprise for her, as she only found out about it through Facebook, when 'Gasping for Air' director Carlo Obispo made an announcement.

“Sobrang na-excite ako kasi parang ginawa nilang surpise para sa amin.

“After so many years, at lumaki na kaming lahat, ipapalabas na siya sa Netflix.

“Hopefully, makikita ng maraming tao and magugustuhan din.”

Therese also expressed her gratitude to streaming platforms for being a new venue for them to showcase their films.

“Grateful ako na naging uso yung streaming platforms kasi mas naging instrument siya for our films, for the indie films, to be shown more sa mas marami pang audience.

“Kasi usually 'di ba we do it in the big screens? We do it in cinemas and minsan napu-pull out siya. Minsan konti lang ang nakakanood.

“If marami man, it's either one day lang siya ipapalabas and then ipu-pull out.

“So, I'm thankful for streaming platforms 'cause they really were able to give us these doors, these opportunities na mas maipakita pa sa maraming tao.

The Kapuso actress also emphasized the importance of reaching more audiences through streaming platforms.

“In a way, it could also help others to indulge in more films (other) than the ones they usually see in mainstream.

“And parang mas nakikilala na 'yung bawat filmmakers and mas nakikita 'yung shine or 'yung spark ng film na 'yon. Like one example is 'Through Night and Day' na dati pinull out siya agad, but because of this opportunity, of Netflix, mas nakilala pa siya lalo ng ibang mga tao.

“At mas na-realize pa ng ibang mga tao na, 'Ang ganda pala ng pelikulang 'yon,' so without these streaming platforms, they wouldn't realize that.”

Although Therese is extremely happy and thankful that two of her indie films will be streaming on Netflix, she has very realistic expectations about the airing of 'Distance' and 'Gasping for Air.'

“I'm not really expecting for like number one ganun ganun, kasi maybe sa ibang mga tao they're not used to films like these. They're used to films na 'hugot' ganun.

“But I hope others will give it a try and see a different taste of films in the Philippines.”

'Gasping for Air' will begin streaming on Netflix on September 3, while 'Distance' will premiere on September 17.
