Lola Ote

Want to satisfy your Pinoy barbeque cravings? You don't have to go too far because you can visit Lola Ote in Quezon City.

Located in Sgt. Esguerra, Quezon City is a humble home turned restaurant called Lola Ote that is famous for its 18-inch tender barbeque skewer.

Established in 2013, the restaurant boasts itself as the home of the best barbeque thanks to its heritage recipe and the metal skewers they use to grill the meat from inside out.

“Maganda 'pag metal 'yung ginagamit na skewer kasi umiinit 'yung bakal while cooking so mas mabilis 'yung pagluto niya kaya hindi nagda-dry out at hindi tumitigas,” tells Edward Bugia, head chef of Pino Resto Bar, to Pop Talk.

He observes that Lola Ote's way of achieving its always perfect pork tenderloin barbeque lies in between each meat.

“Usually kasi ang barbeque 'yung taba nasa dulo kasi tulad ng mga shawarma 'pag niluluto doon dumi-drip 'yung flavor -- from the fat,” he says.

“Pero dito, if you look closely, in-insert-an niya ng fat in between at hindi lang sa dulo para juicy siya talaga while grilling. Happy ako, ang sarap niya at ang lambot.”

Aside from the 18-inch barbeque skewers, Lola Ote is also famous for other dishes including its chicharon bulaklak and Pampanga's authentic sisig.

“Masarap 'yung chicharon bulaklak kasi maganda 'yung pagkaprito. Hindi siya oily, makikita mo 'yung kulay ng chicharon na golden brown, at hindi siya sunog na sunog,” Bugia comments.

“As for the sisig, maganda 'yung balance ng onions. Some people think kasi na 'yung onions is just a garnish sa sisig pero it enhances the flavor.”
