If there’s one legend who can gather talents from rival networks without a second thought, it’s Dolphy, the late Comedy King whose life has touched so many Filipinos that when he died in July the whole country mourned.

If there’s one legend who can gather talents from rival networks without a second thought, it’s Dolphy, the late Comedy King whose life has touched so many Filipinos that when he died in July the whole country mourned.

Dolphy Aid Para Sa Pinoy Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with PLDT, Bench and PAGCOR, is making the most improbable happen through the staging of “Dolphy Alay Tawa, a Musical Tribute to the King of Comedy” scheduled on September 19, 7 pm at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Stars from ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA-7 are gathering for this rare occasion to pay homage to Dolphy, whose life served all walks of life through his talent, charisma, and untiring commitment to entertain people. A-list celebrities, regardless of network affiliation, are cooperating for the special concert, volunteering to perform and making themselves available to be able to express their appreciation for Mang Pidol.

“The management of the three networks and their talents are working together to bring life to Dolphy’s autobiography,” said Eric Quizon, who initiated the tribute.

To be led by the Quizon children – Dolphy Jr., Rolly, Edgar, Eric, Jeffrey, Vandolph, Sally, Ronnie,  Zia – with Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dolphy Alay Tawa will provide the audience the cream of the crop of the local music scene and Philippine movies, many of whom have worked with Dolphy at one point. Some of the artists set to appear at the two and a half hour tribute are Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, Sharon Cuneta, Lorna Tolentino, Boyet de Leon, Maricel Soriano, Roderick Paulate, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Ogie Alcasid, Edu Manzano, Janno Gibs, Pauleen Luna, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro, Jolina Magdangal, Ruffa Gutierrez, brothers Richard and Raymond Gutierrez, Ruby Rodriguez, Keempee de Leon, Wendell Ramos, Edgar Allan, Martin Escudero, Alex Gonzaga, Danita Paner, Jhong Hilario, Arci Muñoz, Ritz Azul, Iya Villania, Denise Laurel, Melai, Eula Caballero, Angeline Quinto, JC de Vera, Rachelle Ann Go, and the Bulilit Kids. With special participation of Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Rosa Rosal, Eddie Gutierrez, Nova Villa, German Moreno, Daisy Romualdez, and Susan Roces.

The show is being directed by Al Quinn, with Bibeth Orteza to whom Dolphy told his autobiography, “Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-Isa,” serving as the show’s scriptwriter.

Dolphy’s influence certainly extends into our current cultural conversation through the kind of comedy he popularized through his movies and TV shows. With Dolphy Alay Tawa, not only will his story be retold through music and dance, but it continues his legacy of sharing.
