On Duroy being evil:

"Si Duroy, when you look at the character, he's just all-out evil. When you see Duroy, 'yan ang demonyo. 'Yan ang walang hiya; he will steal anything! He'll step on anyone's toes to achieve his purpose. Walang puso. He doesn't get involved with women, because he believes women would be his downfall. Kaya nga si Lupin, sinasabihan niya: 'One thing you don't do in this
business (is to) fall in love. Don't get involved.' There should be nothing emotional for Duroy. Sa kanya, bottomline is always money."
On Duroy being baduy:
"Wala siyang sense of class or taste! Like, if he were to design a house, it would look gaudy! (For instance), he'd put a Ming jar beside something (in)compatible, but his point is, that Ming jar is worth 10M, and the other one is so and so million. It's always about the worth of the object. (It has nothing to do with) art. Art is foreign to Duroy. It's a Greek word!"
On Duroy changing for the better:
"Duroy will not change. He's always looking for a new talent to train, (like Angela, played by Sandy Talag). 'From youth pa lang, I will use you as a tool so I will be rich.' Somewhere along the line, (he'll) give you crumbs, but the lion's share is always (his)."
On whether stealing is justifiable or not:
"Not putting down the country or anything, but most probably, even his father was a thief. Baluktot (na) 'yung prinsipyo, but that's all he knew, that all he understood. (I'm) not really justifying it, but ako, to a point na if there was a Duroy, I mean, there are a lot of Duroy's in the world, but maaawa ka because you know that there is no chance for you to reach out,
parang the whole cliche, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Ingrained na masyado 'yung pagkawalang hiya. So magkakaroon ka na lang ng pity sa kanya. I mean, there's always the seed of good and evil in each and every one of us. (Kaya lang) ito, talagang 'yung evil, kinain na talaga 'yung good, or he just blocked it off in his mind. '(All's well) as long as I'm on top; (as
long as) I'm at an advantage.' That's (what's) good for the kind of person that Duroy is."
On Duroy teaching the wrong values to kids:

"Hindi naman, kasi may redeeming factor - for sure, Duroy is not going to succeed. For Duroy, it's either he gets incarcerated, or worse, he dies, because of his laziness. Duroy is just one of the many participants in the whole story. The central character is still Lupin, who is good. Sa start nga, there was a battle within (Lupin). He's good, he wants to change but he couldn't get away from me right away."
"Which is also good, because here's Duroy, who is evil, and here's a guy who (thinks), 'I don't really wanna steal, but somebody's guarding me like a watchdog, and I have to do this for me to get away.' But makikita mo talaga as the story progresses (that there's) a constant struggle, but it's always leaning towards the light, e. Not darkness."
"But of course, the dark side is trying to pull him back. And I'm putting all kinds of obstacles - not only me, but you have to consider there's Master Moon Raven, Sister Anna Nicole, there's even people like Perez. So he's surrounded by all these stupid, crazy people who are trying to pull him down. He's all alone, trying to get out of that pit, di ba? So it's a real struggle for him. And so far naman, nakikita naman siguro 'yun. Sabi nga nila, di ba, 'If you don't fall, you'll never know the beauty of standing up.' When kids are watching, they'll say, nakakatawa siya, e, pero
bad siya. Ito,
good. It's ingrained in every human being, I guess. Depends na lang on the way you're being reared, and for parents naman, yeah, it's (for) entertainment purposes, but we always remind (kids) (of) things that (aren't) right."
