Beauty Queen, Kapuso leading man TJ Trinidad plays the good guy Marc Sandoval na magiging kapareha ng karakter ni Iza Calzado na si Maita San Miguel. “I’m the son of Gloria Diaz here. I’m a little bit like may pagka-playboy. Mostly it’s like trying to please my mom all the time. Takot ako sa nanay ko,” paliwanag ni TJ, “She’s very strong, man-powered and independent. She expects all that from me and more. I’m always trying to live up to that expectation. It always seems to fall short naman. When I’m not infront of my mother, I work hard, I’m diligent. I have an eye for beauty like her, just like the aesthetic. I have the same taste as that of my mother. Lumalabas iyong pagka-pilyo.” Dagdag pa niya, “I guess it’s a result of the broken marriage. So that means when it comes to relationships, he feels that people would end up being hurt and being in pain.” Sa mga roles na ginampanan niya, TJ says na si Kapitan Ramon lang mula sa Zorro ang tanging bad guy na naging character niya. Ipinaliwanag pa nga niya ang iba’t ibang dimensions ng kanyang characters. “Compared to my past roles, Stairway to Heaven [Tristan] was good, misguided, blinded and obsessive mukha siyang masama,” TJ explains, “Sa Diva naman, I was still a good guy there, a victim of circumstances I suppose. The only all out bad guy I’ve played already was Kapitan Ramon in Zorro. I’d like to think that most of them aren’t only one-dimensional. Even if they have bad traits, they also have good traits like a real person. They aren’t born to be bad. It’s just the external and internal factors that contribute. With [Marc Sandoval], he’s good but a pilyo also. In the end, all in all, he’s a good guy. He’s phobic when it comes to commitments. All he really wants, in the end.” Nakaka-relate ba siya kay Marc Sandoval? “No, not really,” nakangiting sagot ng aktor, “I guess we’ve been in the aspect of trying to get the approval of your parents. When you grow up you try to do things to please your parents. In that aspect, probably yes. That’s the only aspect that I can relate to.” In Beauty Queen, TJ will be working again with Iza Calzado. Marami ang natuwa nang nagsama sila ni Iza sa Desperadas at sa Pilyang Kerubin. The two have undeniable chemistry that their fans have also loved. With this, will TJ want to be in a permanent loveteam with Iza? “No, no. I don’t think anyone actor wants a permanent loveteam,” sagot ng binata, “kasi as an actor you would want to work with as many people as possible on cam. Siguro it’s good to have a follow-up project but iyong naka-peg ka lang doon, you will not be able to work with as much people as you can.
