Nagsimula na kagabi ang ‘Zorro’ sa prime time Telebabad block ng GMA. Portraying the Pinoy ‘Zorro’ is Richard Gutierrez, and playing opposite Richard is a new face in the Kapuso Network—TJ Trinidad. Excited to prove himself, TJ says na ready na siyang makipagsabayan sa Prime Time King. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Photos courtesy of GMA Network.
Portraying the main antagonist in the story, TJ Trinidad is indeed happy that he has landed a substantial role in the Philippine adaptation of
Zorro.

“I play Ramon Pelaez, the cousin of Richard’s character," ayon sa bagong Kapuso artist. "Magkapatid 'yung tatay namin dito sa story. I will basically be his main rival, his archenemy.”
Idinagdag pa niya na this is a good launching vehicle for him at masayang-masaya siya to be working with
Richard Gutierrez again.
“I feel very fortunate na they got me for the part and I’m very excited. I think, and I know naman, that I’m up for the task. So I just feel very lucky that they got me in such a big project. You know, it’s my first show with GMA as well,” kuwento sa amin ni TJ during an exclusive iGMA interview.
At siyempre, dahil first project niya ito sa GMA, talaga namang pinaghandaan niya ang kanyang role. He wants to be credible when he plays the ruthless kontrabida that will make Antonio’s (Richard) life miserable.
A soldier and Ilustrado in the story, TJ took up Spanish classes to prepare for his role: “I brought my Spanish books to practice. I took it as an elective in La Salle [in college].”
In preparation for his action scenes naman, he also underwent training for horseback riding and fencing, together with Richard.
“Fencing is different. It’s all wrist and it’s different," sabi pa ng aktor. "It’s a lot of lunging and all that. Masakit, actually sa legs at sa kamay. I mean, the sword is not so heavy but after training for about an hour, it’s going to feel like it is a hundred pounds just like in boxing. After one round, your hands will feel like it’s made of lead. ‘Yung gloves mo parang ang bigat, you know what I mean?”
Despite this, tuloy pa rin si TJ ang training and most of the time, ka-sparring pa niya ang Pinoy Zorro, on- and off-camera: “Gumagawa kami ng sarili naming routine kasi we’re basically taught the basic moves that you can alter and create [other moves with]. Kumbaga, ang sparring parang sayaw.”
Kaya naman siguradong dapat nating abangan ang mga fight scenes na ito between Richard and TJ. Makatotohanan at makapigil-hininga,
Zorro will surely make your prime time viewing habit an experience to remember.
Catch the Pinoy
Zorro, weeknights pagkatapos ng
24 Oras.
