“It was really dark that I thought I was gonna do something to myself that was irreversible.” - Tom Rodriguez

On Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, returning actor Tom Rodriguez admitted that he had once become suicidal in the last two years, which he considered the darkest phase of his life.

In 2022, Tom took an unexpected showbiz hiatus following his controversial split with his ex-wife Carla Abellana.

After two years, Tom returned to the Philippines to reclaim what was left of his career. However, Tom revealed that his journey in recovery was never easy.

“Gaano katindi ang iyak na pinagdaanan mo in the last two years?” TV host Boy Abunda asked Tom.

“A lot, lalo being there and seeing my mom struggle even more with me, seeing me in that condition,” he answered.

“At that time, I felt like I was starting at a negative. 'Cause a lot of things that I thought
meant a lot to me disappeared,” Tom continued.

During the emotional interview, Tom admitted he once thought of harming himself because of the heaviness he was feeling.

“It was really dark that I thought I was gonna do something to myself that was irreversible,” he added.

But his love for his family saves him from ending his life. He said, “A moment that flashed in my mind was what would my nephews think? If they go through a hardship, they go through a hard time, 'Oh, Tito Tom was able to do this, I can do it, too.'”

“And I thought I owe them more than that. And now, I owe my younger self that, too. That you can go through the hardest, unos, bagyo, kahit anong dumaan sa buhay mo, as long as you find that integrity within yourself again. You build that trust within yourself, that love for yourself, and those who matter the most to you, and you can get through it,” he claimed.

Despite the major challenges he experienced, Tom was able to continue living with thankfulness because of the support of his family and friends.

“In that lowest moment, you have a lot to be grateful pa rin pala, Tito Boy. You have a lot to be thankful for,” Tom shared.

Tom added that he never expected that his healing journey would lead him to find his new love.

He said, “Like I said when I went through that healing process, that wasn't even in my mind but I do believe that love does find you when you are ready for it, and when it found me, I thought my doors would be closed forever. Hindi pala. Because I am experiencing it again now.”
