GMA brings back the Pinoy classics of the past via the Sine Novelas. On its first offering, no-less than a Vilma Santos starrer will be seen again on TV!
GMA recognizes the need for good stories that are worthy of our viewing time. Thus, the network brings back the Pinoy classics of the past via the Sine Novelas and gives them a new lease on life. On its first offering, no-less than a Vilma Santos starrer will be seen again on TV! Text by Loretta G. Ramirez, Photos by Mitch Mauricio First seen on the silver screen in 1982, Sinasamba Kita, starred Vilma Santos, Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon and Philip Salvador. It was directed by Eddie Garcia. Five formidable names in the Philippine entertainment industry, the movie won three awards, including the Best Director Award in FAMAS. This April, GMA 7 relives this classic movie and gives it a new twist. The story stars This is a tale of two half-sisters, Divina and Nora, and their extended families. The story of Sinasamba Kita starts at the death bed of Don Jose Ferrer who asks Divina to look for his other family -- Corazon and Nora. The conflict starts when Divina’s mom (Sylvia) and aunt (Isabelita) conspire to make Nora’s life miserable. Despite the unkind treatment, Nora still idolizes her older sister and does everything to please her, even if it means being a slave to the Ferrers. Nora doesn’t just suffer under Divina’s care. She loses herself and gets blinded by her adulation. But everybody has their limit, so when Nora reaches hers, she leaves home and tries to find her place in the world. Fate then plays a trick on the sisters and eventually their paths cross again, and this time Nora is ready to settle the score. The cast Top caliber actresses played the lead roles in the movie. Vilma Santos was portrayed by Divina and Lorna Tolentino played Nora. This time around, GMA selected Sheryl Cruz and Valerie Concepcion to give life to these two complex characters. stars Sheryl Cruz has done numerous shows on TV ever since her comeback on the showbiz scene. To her credit she has done Mulawin (2004), two seasons of Now and Forever (Ganti,2005 and Tinig, 2006) and of course she portrayed the role of Valeria in Bakekang.This time, she is playing Divina, the rich and successful daughter of Don Jose Ferrer. “It’s actually very flattering to be considered to play the character of Divina, kasi this was played by Vilma Santos…and everybody knows she’s an award-winning actress. Not only that, she’s my godmother both in baptism and in wedding so I have to prove a lot to the people,” says Sheryl. stars Valerie shares her sentiment as she feels that she has a lot to prove on this project. To date, this is one of her most challenging roles. The fact that Lorna Tolentino first played the role of Nora adds to the pressure. But she reassures her fans that she will do her best in this sine novela. With these two artists are top-caliber actors and actresses namely Ms. Gina Alajar, Mark Gil, Jackie Lou Blanco, Bing Loyzaga, Ricardo Cepeda, Allan Paule, Raquel Villavicencio, Tony Mabesa, Carlo Aquino and Wendell Ramos. Sinasamba Kita starts airing on April 30 during the GMA Dramarama sa Hapon right after Muli.
