’Bubble Gang’ is now the longest-running gag show on Philippine television—thanks to the creative geniuses behind the program, na walang iba kundi ang main comedians ng show, sina Ogie Alcasid at Michael V. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. Now on their way to their 14th year, hindi matatawaran ang na-achieve ng Bubble Gang sa history ng local TV. Pasimuno sa mga nausong jokes at segments, marami ang sumubok na gumaya dito, pero siyempre, iba pa rin ang original na samahan ng Bubble Gang. Marahil ang isa sa mga sikreto ng show ay ang mga samahan at pagkakaibigan na nabuo throughout the years na ginagawa nila ang programa. Isa dito, na talaga namang factor sa success ng show, ay ang kakaibang tandem ni Ogie Alcasid at Michael V.
A renowned balladeer and prolific song writer, marami ang nagulat ng sumabak sa comedy si Ogie Alcasid. But he soon proved na mayroon siyang comedic timing at kaya niyang makipagsabayan when it comes to delivering punch lines. Michael V,. a.k.a. Bitoy, on the other hand, had a strong indication na magiging effective siya as a comedian after he released his first single "Maganda ang Piliin (Ayoko ng Panget)"—his response to Andrew E.’s famous hit, "Humanap Ka Ng Panget." From then on, he steadily climbed his way to the top. Pero kailan nga ba nagsimula ang kakaiba at kakatuwang samahan ng dalawa? “Sa Tropang Trumpo," kuwento ni Bitoy during an exclusive interview sa set ng Bubble Gang. Kami ang magkasama ni Ogie na lumipat ng GMA, eh. Kami iyong supposedly nagpa-pirata. So iyon (laughs).” Nang tanungin naman namin siya kung ano ang sikreto ng kakaiba nilang tandem ni Ogie, paliwanag niya, “We have this harmonious relationship when it comes to comedy, eh. Ah, ‘pag nasa taas ako, nasa baba siya. Sexually, ano naman ito? May sexual innuendo?! (laughs) Ah, hindi ganun, ah. Kapag O.A. (over-acting) ako, under-acting siya and vice-versa.” Si Ogie naman, thankful sa friendship nila ni Bitoy: “Si pareng Bitoy, ah, I’m running out of adjectives to describe this friend of mine. But I would like to thank him most of all for his real friendship. I think that’s the reason why we’re still together and doing this because of our friendship.” Masasabing sa haba ng pinagsamahan ng dalawa, kabisado na nila ang isa’t-isa and that they can be funny even if they don’t have a script to follow. Kaya siguro inabot na ng 14 years—and still going strong—ang Bubble Gang. Ilan pa kayang mga characters ang magagawa ng comedic duo na ito? Ilang pa kaya ang pasisikating music adaptations at commercial spoofs nila Ogie at Bitoy? For sure, maraming-marami pa, dahil talaga namang on- and off-screen, ibang klase ang kanilang samahan.
