
Veteran Kapuso journalist and radio commentator Jimmy Gil, whose broadcasting career spanned decades, has passed away. He was 79.
Jimmy, whose full name was Jaime Federico Gil, died at 9:25 a.m. on Thursday, according to information released by his family.
A respected figure in Philippine broadcast journalism, Gil began his career with GMA Network's Super Radyo dzBB in 1979 as a news writer. He later transitioned to television reporting in 1982, covering a wide range of beats, including the then-Western Police District, Manila City Hall, the Commission on Elections, the Bureau of Immigration, and other major news assignments.
Throughout his career, Jimmy became a familiar presence on both radio and television. He served as co-anchor of The Saturday & Sunday Evening Report alongside the late Raffy Marcelo and also occasionally joined veteran broadcaster Tina Monzon Palma on News at Seven during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Even after retiring from television reporting, Gil remained active in broadcasting through his radio program, Jimmy Gil Live!, which he continued to host until shortly before his passing.
Known for his dedication to journalism and public service, Jimmy spent more than four decades informing listeners and viewers through his work in news and current affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Katrina Sy, their six children, and 11 grandchildren.
