A music production company based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has purchased a popular internet meme for around $74,000 or more than P3 million.
The meme titled “Side-eyeing Chloe” was a photo of a young girl named Chloe Clem giving a stern reaction after being told by her mother about a surprise visit to Disneyland.
The meme was sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) for 25 Ethereum as cryptocurrency.
Buying the NFT was 3F Music, further growing its collection of high-profile NFTs across various classifications.
The company reportedly purchased the memes the “Disaster Girl,” “The overly attached girlfriend,” and the “Creepy Chans,” in the past months.
3F Music also bought digital artworks, music albums, and the 1959 Time magazine cover art of space exploration.
An NFT is a digital file whose unique identity and ownership are verified on a blockchain.
A blockchain is a system of recording information that is secure and difficult to change, hack, or compromise the system.
NFTs are non-interchangeable and not currencies and are treated more like memorabilia yet in digital format.
Other NFTs sold that gained public attention were the viral video “Charlie Bit My Finger,” Andy Warhol's digital artworks, and the first-ever tweet made on Twitter courtesy of co-founder Jack Dorsey.
