On August 20, online music show Spotlight Music Sessions featured hip-hop artist and 12th PMPC Star Awards for Music nominee Alejandro Monares Claros Jr. a.k.a BenteDos, as he shared his insights through his original song "Kapit sa Patalim."
In his debut single, the 31-year-old artist pays tribute to the journey and grievances of the struggling Filipino, his affinity for underdogs and outsiders.
"Kapit sa Patalim ay tungkol sa pagiging matibay sa hamon ng buhay. 'Di masamang kumapit sa patalim kung alam mo namang wala kang tinatapakang kapwa," said the Negros Occidental native as he reflects on the meaning behind his song.
"Kapit lang kahit maraming hamon na pagsubok sa buhay natin. Kapit lang hangga't may pagkakataon na binibigay sa 'tin," he added.
BenteDos started writing music when he was 16 years old while working as a crew for local band Cueshe. He shared that his approach to the rap game was inspired by his friend and collaborator, Raymund Marasigan, one of the most well-respected mainstays of the Philippine rock band scene.
This coming Friday, August 27, BenteDos will perform his song "Bakas ng Kalye" live on Spotlight Music Sessions.
