GMA News and Public Affairs bagged 5 awards in five different categories from the 2019 New York Festivals TV and Film Awards held last April 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
One of those awards was given to “The Atom Araullo Specials: No Leftovers” which bagged the Silver World Medal.
The award-winning documentary showed that food wastage remains a big problem in the country despite the increasing number of people experiencing hunger every day.
According to Atom who received the prestigious award, “Food waste is a problem globally, but you associate it with first world countries.
“But in the Philippines, where 7 million people consider themselves hungry, it's also a big problem.”
Earning another Silver World Medal for the network was the “Reel Time: Batang Maestro” which focuses on the story of a 12-year-old boy named Dagul and his fellow volunteers who serve as “little teachers” in the province of Sorsogon.
The award was received by Supervising Producer and Writer Mark Norella.
He says, “Gumawa kami ng documentary na mag-iinspire sa mga tao na, there is always hope.
“Na mapapaisip tayo na, 'Oo may problema, pero anong magagawa natin?'”
Bagging another recognition is “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho: Salay” which won the Bronze World Medal.
The award is another addition to the long list of awards garnered by the show as well as GMA News and Public Affairs pillar Jessica Soho.
Meanwhile, “I-Witness: Bilanggo ng Isipan” won the Bronze World Medal while the “I-Witness: War Zone ER” bagged the Finalist Certificate. Both awards were received by host and GMA News Anchor Kara David.
Congratulations, Kapuso!
