The people of Balabac reside near the water as it is their source of livelihood. In fact, 85 percent of their seafood are sourced in the river mangroves such as tiger prawns, mud crabs, Lapu-Lapu, and more. However, there is one creature that also lurks around -- crocodiles!
According to Andong Noe, the Vice President of Boatman's Association, the type of crocodile that lives in their river is the Crocodylus Mindorensis or, simply, the Philippine Crocodile.

The Balabac residents respect the role of crocodiles in the ecosystem.
