Aniya sa panayam ng 24 Oras, “And then when I got the call now to say come, judge Miss Universe in Manila, Philippines, I knew then that 23 years gone has not made this possible because he needed life to complete itself like this.”

Patuloy niya, “I don’t recognize anything. It’s been ages, but the one thing that hasn’t changed, people. From the moment I landed, ‘Ah, Sushmita!’

Kuwento niya, “I started crying because my luggage had gotten lost, my earrings had gotten lost, and I was like, ‘I’m going to wear this gown with no earrings, and it’s gonna look awful.’ And she and I were not the best of friends. We knew each other but not the best of friends. And she walks up and says, ‘Excuse me, I am Miss Philippines, and you’re in my country. What do you need?’ I will never forget that. She gave me her earrings, and those earrings are the ones I won in.”

Sambit ni Sushmita, “The best thing about the girl winning this year, of course she’ll win Miss Universe, and all of that. But, she will win it in Manila, Philippines, which means for the next 20 years, minimum, she will be loved immensely. I am proof of that. It’s a lifetime thing.”

Mensahe pa niya sa kanyang Filipino fans, “Thank you for loving me so much, and thank you. Mahal kita.”

Sa parehong panayam, muli niyang sinagot ang itinanong sa kanya sa Q&A na ‘What for you is the essence of being a woman?’

Wika niya, “The origin of a child is a mother and is a woman’s heart. I have given birth twice. From there, so I think I have lived that aspect beautifully. She shows a man how to love, care, and share. That is a life-long commitment, I’m still working on it. That is the essence of being a beautiful woman.”

ON JUDGING THE 65TH MISS UNIVERSE

Pahayag niya, “She has to have beauty that isn’t just purely physical. To me this is important as a judge. I think it should be something that has the potential to grow in time.”

“I don’t know why I feel a connect[ion] with her. She’s the same, simple, my kind of girl who just smiles, and is honest, and speaks beautifully about her country,” ani Sushmita.
