
Welsh singer Duffy has revealed that she was raped, drugged and held captive over several days at some point over the last decade.
The singer opened up about this experience in an Instagram post dated on Tuesday, February 25.
She wrote, “I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course, I survived.
“The recovery took time. There's no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine.”
However, she did not include any indication as to the identity of her attacker or mention when or where the attack took place.
Duffy, who rose to fame back in 2008 with the song “Mercy.” She then released her album “Rockferry” that year and was followed by “Endlessly” in 2010.
Despite the success, she didn't release any studio album after that.
Prompt to reveal the secret
She wrote, “You can only imagine the amount of times I thought about writing this. The way I would write it, how I would feel thereafter.
“Well, not entirely sure why now is the right time, and what it is that feels exciting and liberating for me to talk. I cannot explain it.
“Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why.
She then explained to a journalist who had found a way to contact her over the summer and share her story with him.
“He was kind and it felt so amazing to finally speak,” she recalls.
“You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain? I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes.
“ I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke.”
She further revealed that she will be posting a spoken interview and that fans could post questions on her Instagram.
“I have a sacred love and sincere appreciation for your kindness over the years. You have been friends. I want to thank you for that.”
Over the course of her career, the Welsh singer won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Rockferry as well as three Brit Awards.
Aimee Anne Duffy, also known as Duffy, is a singer, songwriter, and actress. She made her acting debut in the film “Patagonia.”
In 2008, Duffy was reported to have said she was on “the borderline of a nervous breakdown” because of the pressure that fame had brought her. She said that she had considered becoming recluse but decided against it for the sake of her fans.
