Chris Cayzer's album, "The Only Thing," is already out in record bars everywhere at inalam ng iGMA.tv in an exclusive interview with the young musician what listeners can expect from his latest project. Text and photos by Jason John S. Lim. starsEarly this year, nabanggit na ni Chris Cayzer sa iGMA that he's already hard at work sa kanyang bagong album, his first under a new record label, Warner Music. "I probably started beyond last year," kuwento sa amin ni Chris tungkol sa kanyang album planning. He tells us na when he started planning for The Only Thing, he also signed with his new label, which is Warner Music. With The Only Thing, Chris Cayzer further explores his songwriter side, writing five of the nine tracks na nasa album. "Two were written by somebody else, one written by Mr. Ogie Alcasid, and I did one cover from one of my favorite jazz artists, Michael Franks.” How does this one differ from his previous work? "It's very different from my first album, because this one gave me more freedom." What's more, Chris also tells us na kinuha niya ang feedback na natanggap niya regarding his first album, and put all of it into this new one. A Better Man Chris tells us na ang favorite cut niya sa album is “You're the Only Thing.” "It is just very simple, and it made me foray into something more different." He explains to us na as a guitarist, it was very different for him to arrange a song in piano. And 'You're the Only Thing,' the eighth track in the album, is in piano and strings. That's not to say the other tracks are not as good. As Chris shares with us, maraming songs ang pinagpilian nila just to pick the best of the lot: "I chose the songs with my manager," Chris discloses. "In the [selection] process, I had to go to the studio [at] my own expense, and I had to record and wrong some songs-within the last album, I probably wrote about fifty songs. And I had to choose the best six." Chris also asked Ogie Alcasid, "kindly," if he would contribute a song. And Ogie gave him a song to cover-which was “A Better Man.” Chris reveals na ito ang magiging second single ng kanyang album. Currently, his first single “Loko” is still making the radio rounds pero Chris is already scheduling a music video shoot para sa “A Better Man,” which he estimates will be released early in 2010. Catch Chris Live starsTo promote The Only Thing, Chris Cayzer is having mall shows in Luzon. "I just finished my SM mall tour," Chris tells us. "Pero I'm gonna [have] another series next year in Robinson's Malls and SM provincial tours as well." Bukod sa mga mall shows, interested parties can also catch Chris at the Stone House, a bed and breakfast found along E. Rodriguez Avenue. "I'm gonna be there with my band." Chris continues na there will be something new rin for his long-time supporters, because he'll be playing an electric guitar. "Para maiba 'yung style." If you can't catch him in any of his live gigs though-grab a copy of the album and have the Chris Cayzer experience wherever you are! If that's not enough to convince you, why not read Chris's own words? "Hopefully you guys can buy a copy of my album, The Only Thing, under Warner Music. [It's] 200 pesos only." Chris adds, "I just want everyone to buy original copies para they can support OPM. Because I know the music industry's not doing very well right now. So hopefully people can support OPM and buy original copies." Watch his personal invitation to grab a copy of his new album here Don't miss Chris every Sunday sa SOP Fully Charged.
