JC de Vera definitely has the makings of the quintessential leading man, looks, smarts and above all, talent.
JC de Vera knows that he performed well when the network gave him an opportunity to play the lead in Gilda Olvidado’s Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita. In the last few episodes of
Gilda Olvidado's Babagon Ako at Dudurugin Kita, JC de Vera’s character Derek has been getting tougher. No more mister nice guy for this hunk. We asked JC what the journey has been like for what he considers as the role of a lifetime.

“Sa tingin ko na-portray ko siya ng maayos but in a different way, ‘di tulad nung kay Sir Bembol kasi napanood ko eh, napanood ko ‘yung ginawa niya dun eh, iba kasi ‘yung pinagawa sa amin ni direk, gusto niya ‘wag namin kopyahin ‘yung sa movie,” JC proudly shares and adds, “pero siyempre may ibang parts-mga highlights ng movie na siymepre kailangan kopyahin, pero over-all ‘di ako nangopya sa kanya, sarili ko ‘yun!”
It truly seems that he has graduated from the teen image he has been associated with as part of his love team with Yasmien Kurdi. He knows that he and his partner have done a pretty good job of proving themselves worthy of a primetime role.
“Hopefully sana dere-derecho na, kasi naumpisahan ko na eh, naumpisahan na namin ni Yas,” he optimistically says.
Does this mean that he intends do continue his wining tandem with Yasmien? No solo plans yet?
“Honestly, depende sa network kung ano plans nila for us. Kung ako papapiliin, siyempre with Yas pa rin. Pero kung titignan mo talaga, kung career path ang pag-uusapan, I think magpapahinga kami as a loveteam. ‘Di ko lang sure kung sa next show, magkasama pa kami. Pero okay lang, smooth naman relationship namin as partners.”
Slow but Sure
He has gotten rave reviews for his portrayal in
Babangon and is bent on proving that he can do more, act more and give more as a performer.
He says with his usual practical and rational air. “Nakaka-receive naman ako ng positive feedback form the network kaya lang siyempre medyo marami kami na-papapriority kung lahat bibigyan ng lead roles, ako naman hinihintay ko lang talaga time ko.”

Talking to him, one can sense that this is a man who wants to stay long in the biz and is prepared to take his time. He does not want to be a shooting star that just shines brightly for a time. He wants to act for a living.
“Kung baga sa akin, important lang, continuous na may work ako, ‘di ako magpapahinga. ‘Di naman ako ma-bobother kung the next show, ‘di ako bida. At least na-prove ko sa kanila na dito, bida ako. Eventually, the next time, mabigyan nila ako ng bigger project”
JC is aware that compared to actors his age, he has already accomplished a lot and has reason to be proud of what he has done so far. So, right now he is just taking it easy and basically enjoying the fruits of his labor while continually trying to improve his craft.
‘Di naman ako nagmamadali eh, siyempre lahat naman ng artist gusto magkaroon ng title role, na ikaw ang bida. Pero bago pa lang ako sa industry eh at least lucky rin ako kasi bida-bida na rin ako,” he finally answers with his signature smile.
With such a cool attitude and good acting skills, we are sure to see more of JC.
