Ellen DeGeneres just announced that her talk show will be ending after the 19th season.
Multi-awarded TV host Ellen DeGeneres had just announced that her talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be ending after its 19th season in 2022.
The world-famous talk show has been on air for almost two decades and has won 64 Daytime Emmys.
Ellen announced the sad news during her interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
She said, “When you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged--and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it's just not a challenge anymore.”
Ellen also gave a teaser on what her next project might be after her talk show ends in 2022.
“A sitcom seems like a walk in the park compared to this, 180 shows a year.
“I don't know if that's really what I want to do next, but movies for sure.
“If there were a great role, I'd be able to do that.”
The announcement of the end of Ellen's talk show comes after almost a year since a number of controversies surrounding the TV program erupted.
In July 2020, it can be recalled that a dozen of The Ellen DeGeneres Show employees revealed that they have a toxic workplace environment and accused top executive producers of engaging in sexual misconduct and harassment.
The said executive producers have been ousted after the accusations went public and Ellen opened Season 18 with an apology about the said controversies.
Although Season 18 gained the highest season premiere ratings for the show in a long time, the viewership and ratings plummeted soon after.
In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ellen clarified that the controversies had nothing to do with her decision to end the show.
“It almost impacted the show. It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very.
“But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn't have come back this season,”
Ellen is set to do a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey this May 13 to discuss more about her decision to end her almost two decades long talk show.
