The past few months have seen numerous changes happen to the world of pageantry, with the inclusion of transgender candidates being the most divisive one. For former Reina Hispanoamerica Winwyn Marquez, her position on this divisive change has begun to evolve.
Winwyn was recently interviewed on the podcast Updated with Nelson Canlas and the beauty queen updated the entertainment reporter on her stance regarding the issue, saying she no longer has a problem with it.
“Alam mo because before I said parang hindi ako okay doon. Sinabi ko before, I think 2017 ganun sinabi ko. Pero now kasi I think I have to admit to what I said na mali din 'yon kasi I wasn't really sure pa sa mga nangyayari, hindi ko pinag-aralan ang lahat ng nangyayari,” she explained.
It took some time and further education on her part before Winwyn found her stance evolving.
“Nu'ng when I educated myself sa lahat na, LGBTQIA plus everything, actually I'm okay with it now. I'm okay with it, you know inclusivity and everything. They're women e, they're proud women and they're given that chance to join then why not? Di ba?” she said.
Winwyn Marquez's evolution on LGBTQIA+ issues comes as the country is being represented by a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in Michelle Dee, who came out as bisexual back in May.
In an interview with MEGA magazine, Michelle said she “definitely” identifies as bisexual, saying that she identified with that for a slong as she can remember and that she is “attracted to all forms of beauty, all shapes and sizes.”
Michelle is now in El Salvador to compete in the Miss Universe pageant and hopefully bring the country's fifth crown.
The coronation night for this year's Miss Universe pageant is on November 18 (El Salvador time) at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador.
