The prettiest face of radio finally comes to television. GMA Network’s newest talent Andi Manzano steps out from behind the mic and in front of the cameras. Text by Ayessa De La Pena. Photo by Connie M. Tungul. Kamakailan lamang ay pumirma ng contract ang radio jock na si Andrea Manzano or Andi sa GMA Network. She is now one of the jocks for Party Pilipinas. Bukod sa nakilala si Andi dahil kamag-anak niya si Edu Manzano at Luis Manzano, Andi also made a name for herself by being a jock sa isang sikat na radio station. Bukod pa rito ay nanalo din siya sa MTV Philippines VJ Hunt noong 2007. Ano naman ang pakiramdam niya na parte na siya ng talents ng Kapuso Network? “Syempre you’re honored, you’re happy. I’ve been with QTV tapos I transitioned to GMA. Feeling ko nag-level up na din ako somehow,” natutuwang sagot ni Andi during their presscon, “Thank you also to GMA for the opportunities that they’re giving to us girls [Ellen Adarna and Gwen Zamora]. Again, it’s an honor and really exciting naman what I have in store. It’s gonna be a wonderful time also with the Kapuso family.” Hindi rin naging madali ang transition ng dalaga from radio to TV. Ayon kay Andi, masyado daw kasing laidback ang setting ng radio unlike sa TV, “Mahirap kasi on radio you don’t care how you look. Pero on TV you have to be more conscious – the way you talk, the way your hands move. All that you have to look at…and then your facial expressions. You have to be always jolly and happy.” Dagdag pa niya, nakatulong rin naman ang kanyang mga dating shows para mas mapadali ang transition na ito, “I think I was able to transition with MTV and QTV. I was able to learn and to practice at the same time. Now I’m here and excited naman ako.” Ilang beses rin nilinaw ni Andi during their presscon na she’ll be hosting as of the moment. “I wanna do first what I think I do best, which is hosting. I’ve been hosting naman for a long time.” Wala ba siyang planong sumabak rin sa acting in the future? “Syempre I don’t wanna say naman na I’m not gonna do acting and show up in a TV show na naga-act pala ako. We’ll find out in the future pero now, it’s more of hosting. If there’s a role na iyong nakakatuwa naman, na medyo kaugali ko, na I can do it, I’ll do it naman,” seryosong sagot ni Andi. Now that she’s in showbiz, is Andi Manzano ready to face intrigues? “I’m learning naman at the process. I’m surrounded with people who are a part of the industry, so tinuturuan din naman nila ako kung paano i-handle iyong mga intriga. And I’m good friends naman with Mo. Siya naman iyong very controversial. I’ve learned so many things naman from him,” nakangiting sagot ng dalaga.
