Recently, news broke that Kapuso actor Yasser Marta will star as Jesus Christ in a Senakulo, a Filipino traditional theatrical reenactment of the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord, to be held in Angeles, Pampanga.

According to the actor, rehearsals have become more intensive as they approach their Good Friday performance this year, scheduled for April 3, 2026.

He further shared that it has long been his dream to take on the significant role of Jesus Christ.

Despite being born of Portuguese and Tausug descent, he expressed that his Muslim faith is not an obstacle to the portrayal.

Yasser also expressed his joy in being part of this Holy Week production. He noted how much he is enjoying the experience, mentioning that working with a cast of students has made him feel like a student again himself.

“Natutuwa po ako kasi 'yung mga kasama ko po rito, halos karamihan po ay mga estudyante, so ako po, pakiramdam ko po ay parang bumalik din po ako sa dati,” Yasser shared.

According to the Kapuso actor, he considers this portrayal a “humbling” experience, as he found himself becoming more grounded during rehearsals and throughout the various preparations for the performance.

“It's a very humbling experience na naging grounded po talaga ako,” he expressed.

Reflecting on the significance of his upcoming portrayal, Yasser also emphasized how much he values being chosen for such a rare and prestigious rolet.

“Opportunity rin kasi hindi naman lahat nabibigyan ng ganitong opportunity,” said Yasser.

Recently, Yasser won “Best Supporting Actor” for his performance in the film Desperada at the Sinag Maynila 2026, where he starred alongside his real-life partner, Robb Guinto.
