Nine years ago, the song “Friday” became a viral hit and its singer, Rebecca Black was only 13 years old.
The song became a worldwide joke that ridiculed and mostly damaged the teenager.
Now, the singer-turned-content-creator is making rounds again as Rebecca reflects back on the infamous song that made her famous and how it has affected her mental well-being.
On Twitter, Rebecca posted a lengthy message to herself and how she wishes to go back to the same date nine years ago.
“Nine years ago today a music video for a song called 'Friday' was uploaded to the internet.
“Above all things, I just wish I could go back and talk to my 13-year-old self who was terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world.
“To my 15-year-old self who felt like she had nobody to talk to about the depression she faced.”
She then continued to retell the story of how she was bullied in school and the many “No's” she received when asking music producers to work with her.
“To my 17-year-old self who would get to school only to get food thrown at her and her friends.
“To my 19-year-old self who had almost every producer or songwriter tell me they'd never work with me.
“Hell, to myself a few days ago who felt disgusting when she looked in the mirror!
“I'm trying to remind myself more and more that every day is a new opportunity to shift your reality and lift your spirit. You are not defined by any one choice or thing. Time heals and nothing is finite. It's a process that's never too late to begin.”
The note was posted together with a photo of a more confident and more mature Rebecca.

Because of the overwhelming support she's received, from fans and friends alike, Rebecca said she's “blown away” by the feedback.

Back in 2011, Friday was released on YouTube. The song was written by Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson under ARK Music Factory. Its music video was called “the worst video ever made” by critics and netizens but eventually became a cult classic that paved way for parody music videos.
