Zayn Malik sparked buzz after saying he no longer considers his past relationship with Gigi Hadid “love” during a recent podcast interview
Former One Direction member Zayn Malik is making headlines after candidly opening up about his past relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid, sharing surprising reflections during a recent interview.
In an appearance on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy, the singer spoke honestly about his views on love, relationships, and personal growth, including his past with Hadid, with whom he shares a daughter.
When asked about their romance, Zayn admitted that his perspective has changed over time, saying, "At that moment in time, I might've thought it was love, but as I've gotten older, I've realized maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was lust, maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don't feel like it was love," he said.
Zayn also mentioned how he will always care deeply for Gigi because “she's the reason my child is on this Earth.”
“And I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don't know if I was ever in love with her,” he said.
“I have so much respect for this woman and I do love her, a crazy amount, but no. I don't think I was in love with her at that point, otherwise I would've been a better version of myself,” he added.
The “Pillow Talk” singer also shared how Gigi reacted when he gave their daughter Khai, 5, a pricey gift after she lost her first tooth.
“I think I gave her a bit too much money from the Tooth Fairy,” Zayn, 33, said during the Feb. 11 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. When host Alex Cooper asked how much he left under Khai's pillow, he replied, “$500.”
He added lightheartedly, “It's her first tooth! Her mom gave me s--t for it, but at the end of the day, I work my ass off and I should be able to give my kid what I want to give her.”
Zayn and Gigi began dating in 2015 and had an on-and-off relationship for several years before officially parting ways in 2021. The former couple welcomed their daughter, Khai, in 2020. Since their split, both have largely kept their personal lives private, prioritizing family and maintaining boundaries away from the public eye.
During the interview, Zayn reflected on how fame and youth influenced many of his past decisions, explaining that he has since gained a deeper understanding of himself and what he wants from relationships. He also touched on mental health, personal healing, and navigating life outside the intense spotlight that followed his One Direction years.
