Despite the delays and challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, GMA kiddie singing competition Centerstage has finally crowned its winner.
The young social media celebrity from Albay, Vianna Ricafanca, won the title over the young ukulele player from Bulacan, Oxy Dolorito, during the ultimate one-on-one match on Sunday, June 6.
After performing a sing-off of Ted Ito's "Maghintay Ka Lamang" and their individual songs on the May 30 episode, the top four finalists were winnowed down to the final two, with Vianna and Oxy being chosen over Rain Barquin of Caloocan City and Colline Salazar of Las Piñas City.
During the final round, Oxy sang "Iduyan Mo" by Basil Valdez while Vianna belted "Kahit Isang Saglit" by Martin Nievera.
Centerstage judges Concert Queen Pops Fernandez, Kapuso vocal powerhouse Aicelle Santos, and musical director Mel Villena ultimately went with Bicol's pride.
From the first time Vianna stepped on Centerstage, they already saw the potential of the young singer to be a future singing icon because of her impressive vocal abilities and stage presence, remarking her as a total package performer.
Maestro Mel even praised Vianna's initiative to rearrange the songs she would perform on stage.
"Meron siyang idea sa musical arrangement na gusto n'yang mangyari sa kanta. So ini-istorya n'ya sa mga musical director at saka sa arranger as a kid. Grabe, meron s'yang gano'n," he told GMANetwork.com.
Centerstage will give over PhP 2.5 million worth of prizes to all the grand finalists.
Each grand finalist will receive a cash prize and a special gift from Centerstage. As grand champion, Vianna will also receive a house and lot from Bria Homes.
