
With the influx of shades, coverages, and finish available in the market, foundations nowadays are just as customizable as your next milk tea order. That's the reason why it's one of the hardest makeup products to buy.
For any beauty junkie, finding the right foundation means it should look like your own skin, only better. And this can be hard to achieve when most makeup aisles don't have the ideal lighting for swatching.
So Glow Up host Winwyn Marquez turned to celebrity makeup artist Albert Kurniawan to break down everything you need to consider when trying to choose your new go-to foundation.
Sure, there's a lot of space in your arm, but the skin on this part of your body is a lot darker than your face. Kurniawan suggests swatching it in your chin because “this is closest to your neck and your face.” This way, “you can check whether it's close to both those areas.”
Are you allergic to certain ingredients or not? If you're not sure, Albert advises placing a swatch in the neck area then go about your day.
“After matching your shade on your chin, try placing some foundation on your neck. This is to ensure if you're allergic or not to certain ingredients of the product.”
Unless you want to color-correct, don't fight against your skin's natural undertones. Go yellow undertones if you have warm skin tone and opt for pink undertones if you have a cool complexion.
If you can't find the right balance, don't be afraid to mix two foundations. “I try to mix two foundation colors in order to get the desired color you want,” Kurniawan says,
