While it is no secret that we live in modern times, and it's not anymore surprising to see adults engaging in a relationship with someone younger than them, seeing them being portrayed on television is a different thing.

And while most of us are used to seeing an older man pursuing a younger woman, it's taboo to see the opposite being portrayed on the small screen. But why is that?

This was the question posed to acclaimed actresses and Magkaagaw stars Sunshine Dizon and Sheryl Cruz during an online media press conference back in early January.

Sunshine Dizon calmly replied, “In our society now, papalampasin kung lalaki, e. Pero 'pag 'yung babae na 'yung gumagawa, ang laking issue palagi.

"Bakit nga ba I think it's a taboo that has been going on for the longest time and walang equality, e.

“'Pag lalaki okay lang pero 'pag babae hindi.

"I think those are the taboos that we should be breaking now. Dapat equal 'yan kasi babae o lalaki pareho lang naman 'yan.”

Meanwhile, Sheryl Cruz added, “I actually agree with what Sunshine Dizon has said.

"At saka iba siguro 'yung take nating mga Pilipino pagdating sa issue na ito, with regards to May-December affairs.

“I think it's just part of our tradition of being Filipinos na masyado tayong conservative.

"But then, kailangan nating sumabay sa panahon especially sa naayon sa panahon ngayon.

"All over the world naman, it happens. It's not an uncommon situation, and some people make it work.

"Kung nagmamahalan talaga sila, I don't see anything wrong with that.

“I don't want to make it a big deal with regards to any relationship as long as they don't hurt anyone.

"Ibang usapan kung mayroon silang inaagawan. Pero kung nagkakasunduan sila at nagmamahalan sila, then age is just a number. Ganun lang 'yon.”

In Magkaagaw, Sheryl Cruz's character Veron Santos engages in a May-December love affair with Jio Almonte, played by Jeric Gonzales.

The show is currently playing its aired episodes, with its fresh episodes coming this February 15th.
