
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) officially opened its 101st season on Wednesday, October 1, at the Araneta Coliseum.
Hosted by Mapua University, the opening ceremony showcased a festive event that marked a new era for the collegiate athletic association.

NCAA Season 101 Policy Board President Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo said that this season's theme, “Building Greatness,” is “more than a slogan” rather it is a “call for action.”
“Greatness is not measured only in victories or trophies, but in integrity we uphold, the discipline we live by, and the passing change we bring to our schools and our nation,” Maestrecampo said.
He continued, “At a time when questions of accountability echo in our nation, the NCAA stands firm--integrity is non-negotiable.”

Sparkle stars Martian Javier, Ashley Ortega, and Anjo Pertierra served as the hosts for this season's ceremony, which was opened with an invocation by Aicelle Santos and the Mapua Cardinal Singers.
Mapua showcased an electrifying performance that combined dance and light, which truly delighted the crowd.

All-Out Sundays Divas of Queendom Thea Astley, Hannah Precillas, and Naya Ambi also treated the NCAA fans with a performance of the Season 101 theme song, “Own the Future.”

Meanwhile, Mapua Cardinals team captain Clint Escamis led the oath of sportsmanship, along with the respective team captains of the Arellano Chiefs, Benilde Blazers, Letran Knights, EAC Generals, JRU Heavy Bombers, LPU Pirates, San Beda Red Lions, San Sebastian Golden Stags, and the Perpetual Altas.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio was also present at the opening ceremony and said he considers NCAA to be “vital in the establishment of Philippine sports culture.”

The Mapua Cardinals and the LPU Pirates started the court action of the season with an intense game, followed by the battle between the Benilde Blazers and the San Beda Red Lions.
