Nonoy Peña performs 'You're Still the One' on GMA Playlist

Nonoy Peña is a 20-year-old OPM singer from Bicol who gained immense popularity online with his rendition of popular hits. He now has over a million followers on Facebook and over 300K subscribers on YouTube where he uploads his covers.

Currently, he is under Ivory Music and has released his debut single "You're Still the One (originally popularized by Shania Twain).

Nonoy recently joined a livestream chat with GMA Playlist and performed "You're Still the One" and his rendition of "You" by Basil Valdez.

He narrated how he picked "You're Still the One" as his debut single, how it started as a suggestion from his record label to create his own version of the song. He said, "Bigyan ko raw ng bagong version 'yung 'You're Still the One.'

"I'm very happy how it turned out. This song was released January 29, sakto papasok na 'yung celebration ng Valentine's Day 'yun na rin 'yung sa tingin namin bagay na maging debut single ko kasi mag-va-Valentine's Day."

He added, "Marami rin akong na-visualize for this song. Naisip ko bagay siya pang-teleserye.
Isa rin sa mga pangarap 'yung pakinggan 'yung kanta ko sa isang teleserye."

During his Icebreaker segment, Nonoy answered questions from Playlist.

The first question read, "Would you say your cover of songs improves your musicality? If yes, how so?"

Nonoy answered, "Of course po. The more you expose yourself to different songs the more na nadadagdagan 'yung kaalaman mo sa music."

He also revealed that he is a true blue Maria Carey fan and said the singer is his inspiration. He said, "Para sakin iba yung musicality niya nahihiwalay siya sa iba. I love how versatile she is."

As for local artists he shared he wants to collaborate with fellow YouTube artist Meg Zurbito.

Aside from pursuing his passion for singing, Nonoy revealed he is dedicated to finishing his studies so he can become a registered nurse.

"Ipagpapatuloy ko 'yung pagaaral ko. I'm taking up Nursing gusto ko maging kabilang sa mga health workers. Gusto ko makatulong hindi lang sa family ko pati rin sa mga nangangailangan ng tulong. Gusto ko malaman how to handle myself in times of difficulties and sickness. Kailangan maging independent."
