Celebrating its 20th this year, GMA Kapuso Foundation’s (GMAKF) Sagip Dugtong Buhay Bloodletting Project generated a total of 5,943 blood bags or 2,674,350 cc – a testament to the recently bestowed ‘Outstanding blood services partner’ award by the Philippine Red Cross to GMAKF.

This July and August, blood drives were held in Taguig City (July 31), Bacoor, Cavite (August 7), and Pulilan, Bulacan (August 13).

The culminating event, held last August 20 at Ever Gotesco Mall in Quezon City, generated 2,132 blood bags, equating to 958,950 cc of blood. This last leg of the Sagip Dugtong Buhay Bloodletting Project was done in celebration of the birthday of GMAKF founder and ambassador Mel C. Tiangco.

Among the highlights of the event was the awarding of plaques of appreciation to frequent donors, who have donated blood at least ten times to this particular cause of GMAKF.

Kapuso personalities such as Bea Binene, Joyce Ching, Dion Ignacio, Mikoy Morales, Papa Dudut, Tess Bomb, and Benjamin Alves entertained the crowd during the whole day bloodletting activity.

GMAKF Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rikki Escudero-Catibog expressed her appreciation to those who made this year’s bloodletting project a success. “Now more than ever, with the prevalence of deadly diseases like dengue, more of us should donate blood. It’s a public service that is much needed,” said Catibog.

The event was held in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, Ever Gotesco Malls and Go Tong Foundation, Inc.

The first leg of Sagip Dugtong Buhay, held last February, collected a total of 1,942 bags or 873,900 cc of blood. GMA Network employees, including those from the provincial stations, participated and raised 208 blood bags or 93, 600 cc. (30)
