Following the destruction by typhoon Ferdie, GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) immediately mobilized a team, which boarded an Air Force C-130 plane bound for Batanes in the morning of August 18, Sunday – a few days after the typhoon hit. Relief goods were given to over 3,124 individuals.

Ssuper typhoon Ferdie is the strongest ever to make landfall on Batanes. The rage of the downpour left numerous structures and trees collapsed to the ground. Communication lines and electric power were cut off in most areas. 

The massive relief operations of GMAKF covered the most severed municipalities of Batanes: Basco, Uyugan and Itbayat. In the municipality of Basco, the areas served were Brgy. San Antonio, Brgy. Kayhuvokan, Brgy. Kaychanarianan, and Brgy. Kaibaluganan.

The municipality of Itbayat was worth hit by typhoon Ferdie. The ‘Kapuso’ team travelled three (3) hours via barge to reach Itbayat. Braving enormous waves, GMAKF project staff Rose Lahorra said, “This is our calling, our obligation to the public. We face risks, to go the remote areas, be it North or South, wherever there are Filipinos in need.”
