At 6-1, Benilde remains a 'work in progress', says Miggy Corteza

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde refused to dwell on its impressive 6-1 start to NCAA Season 98 as the Blazers look to continue to improve the tournament progresses.

That was the case when Benilde faced a tough test on Wednesday against a hungry Mapua University side, which they eventually won, 73-64, after showing some endgame composure.

Key player Miggy Corteza stressed their latest win showed how much work they still have to put in.

"We're still a work in progress. Matagal pa naman 'yung season, we're not contented with 6-1 so a lot of work has to be done sa practices," Corteza, who led their second half rally, said.

Earlier, head coach Charles Tiu said he was not satisfied by how the team fared in the win against Mapua, who had a lot of chances to take home the win after Benilde nearly squandered a huge lead.

And Corteza understood where the mentor is coming from, saying they should not be playing the way they played.

"I can relate to him (Tiu) kasi after 'yung game, we went to the dugout and he pointed out our mistakes so I think we really should be careful and mindful, especially we were up 11 tapos nahabol," Corteza added.

Against the Cardinals, Benilde committed 13 turnovers which Mapua converted to 14. Benilde was also outrebounded, 52 to 47, but thanks to Corteza and Migs Oczon, the Blazers were able to fend off Mapua.

"If we want to win, we shouldn't be having those lapses in our games. We have a lot of work to do."
