Perpetual, Lyceum tussle for last NCAA women's volleyball finals ticket

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and Lyceum of the Philippines University will look to punch the last Finals ticket when they face each other in a knockout stepladder match on Wednesday in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament.

The two squads will go at it at 2:30 p.m. at the FilOil EcoOil Centre with the winner advancing to the title series opposite defending champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

The Lady Pirates are coming off a huge victory against Mapua University last Sunday, eking out a 25-18, 25-23, 29-31, 27-25 tight win to advance to the next round.

And head coach Cromwel Garcia hopes his team could ride on this momentum in a much-important clash with the well-rested Lady ALTAs.

“Sobrang saya ko na ‘yung mga bata nafu-fulfill ‘yung mga dreams nila and I think ‘di pa kami matatapos sa Wednesday,” said Garcia.

("I'm very happy that the players are able to fulfill their dreams and I think we aren't done yet on Wednesday.")

Perpetual, on the other hard, is coming off a 10-day break since its 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 sweep of the Lady Cardinals last March 19 to close out the regular season at the second spot.

The Las Piñas crew is expected to lean once more on the one-two punch of MVP candidate Mary Rhose Dapol and super rookie Shaila Omipon, who have both been the go-to attackers of Perpetual.

Meanwhile, Arellano University will look to barge into the finals of the men’s division when it takes on San Beda University in their 12 p.m. encounter.

The Chiefs, led by scoring machine Carl Berdal, finished the elimination round at second spot while the Red Lions wound up third to figure in a do-or-die stepladder against host Emilio Aguinaldo College.

San Beda eventually won that match after sending the Generals packing with a 25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 26-24 triumph.
