Letran sweeps JRU; Mapua downs San Sebastian in NCAA men's volleyball

Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Mapua University notched wins to start their respective campaigns in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament on Friday at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym.

Letran swept Jose Rizal University, 25-19, 25-15, 25-18, behind Vince Himzon's 13 points anchored on 11 attacks and two blocks. Bembem Bautista added 11 points for the Knights. Paolo Barrientos, meanwhile, had 11 points for the Heavy Bombers.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, spoiled the Stags' home court appearance as they bucked a slow start, 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-14.

Ar-jay Ramos and Barbie San Andres led Mapua's offense with 23 and 22 points, respectively, while Saint Marlowe Jamisola added 10 points for the Cardinals.

Joshua Espenida and Kyle Villamor had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for San Sebastian.

Letran and Mapua will face each other on Saturday, while JRU will go against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on March 1. San Sebastian, meanwhile, will play Emilio Aguinaldo College on February 28.
