Hindi umano pagbibigyan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang panawagan ng Kamara de Representantes na sibakin sa puwesto si Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno kaugnay sa usapin ng 2019 national budget.
Sa panayam ng mga mamamahayag nitong Huwebes, sinabi ni Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo na, "the President continues to trust the Budget Secretary and the confidence reposed on him remains unimpaired.”
Gayunman, nirerespeto umano ng Palasyo ang sintemyento ng mga mambabatas na nagpasa ng resolusyon para ipanawagan kay Duterte na sibakin si Diokno kaugnay sa usapin ng 2019 budget.
Kinikilala umano ng Palasyo ang magandang record ni Diokno sa pagsisilbi sa gobyerno.
“As one of the administration's economic managers, President Duterte considers him as one of the best and brightest in his official family. Secretary Diokno's reputation as an upright, competent and honest public servant stays solid up to this day,” ayon pa kay Panelo.
Nitong Martes, isinalang sa "Question Hour" sa Kamara si Diokno dahil sa umano'y mga idinagdag na pondo sa Department of Public Works and Highways para 2019 nang hindi nalalaman ng kalihim ng kagawaran na si Mark Villar.
Nabigo rin umano si Diokno na ipaliwanag sa mga mambabatas kung papaano nakakuha ng bilyung-bilyong kontrata ang CT Leoncio Construction and Trading, kabilang sa Sorsogon kung saan kakandidato sa 2019 ang mga biyenan ng kaniyang anak.
Itinanggi naman ni Diokno ang mga alegasyon at iginiit na walang anomalya sa dagdag na pondo.
Ayon kay Panelo, may kapangyarihan naman ang mambabatas na ayusin ang anumang pagkakamali na nakita nila sa budget.
“Should it feel that there was irregularity in the allocation of the budget, it (Congress) can always correct it apart from having the option of recommending the filing of charges against those they deem are responsible for the transgressions should the same amount to a crime,” anang opisyal.
“In the same manner that the President doesn’t tell Congress who it will choose as its officers and how to go about it, we wish that its members return the same courtesy,” dagdag niya.-- FRJ, GMA News
