15TH Lasallian Scholarum Awards honor outstanding coverage of youth and education stories


The Board of Judges meeting for the 15th Lasallian Scholarum Awards (LSA) themed “New Dimension: Youth and Education in Focus” culminated last June 28 at De La Salle University, Manila.

This year’s Board of Judges is composed of Bato Balani Foundation Executive director Natalie Christine Jorge, Al Jazeera English Correspondent and Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines President Jamela Aisha Alindogan, Edukasyon.ph CEO Henry Motte-Munoz, DLSU Dean of Student Affairs Nelca Villarin, and Br. Aikee Esmeli FSC of the De La Salle Brothers House of Studies.

Now on its 15th year, the Lasallian Scholarum Awards aim to give recognition to outstanding coverage of youth and education stories by professional and campus journalists.

The LSA has four categories: 1) Outstanding feature article on youth and education in a nationally circulated publication; 2) Outstanding feature story on youth and education published online; 3) Outstanding feature story on youth and education published in a school organ; and 4) Outstanding feature story on De La Salle University published in a nationally circulated publication.

Three stories published on GMA News Online stories are among the finalists for the Outstanding Online Feature story on youth and education:

Awardees will receive a sculpture designed by renowned artist Toym Leon Imao. The LSA will take place this July 22, 11 am, at De La Salle University. A new initiative for print and broadcast media practitioners will also be launched at the event.

Established in 2004, the Lasallian Scholarum Awards is an annual program that recognizes outstanding media coverage of Filipino youth and education stories. It aims to generate awareness among various sectors on critical issues confronting the education sector. This endeavor encourages them to take initiatives toward the development of the country’s educational system.
