Army assures Scout Rangers ‘intact’

The Philippine Army on Sunday said there was no unauthorized movement of troops, especially of its elite unit, the First Scout Ranger Regiment. Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, who was accused of plotting to overthrow the government, used to the head the unit. Army spokesman Maj. Bartolome Bacarro issued the statement after Marine Col. Ariel Querubin admitted that majority of the 8,000-strong Marine Corps planned to join the protest rallies last Friday. Lim and Querubin are founding leaders of the Young Officers Union, which took part in failed uprisings against the Aquino administration. "All of our rangers are intact….We are definitely sure that the Scout Rangers are intact and are not participating in developments at Fort Bonifacio," Bacarro said. - GMANews.TV
