Youtube goes dark for Earth Hour

Video sharing site YouTube joined in the celebration of Earth Hour Saturday night by going dark.

On Saturday evening, visitors to the site's home page would notice a light bulb beside the YouTube logo.

"Earth Hour - One person has the power to make change," read the message when the mouse or pointer is hovered over the bulb.

But a user who views a video will notice a light switch beside the title of the video, which toggles the page's background color.

Clicking on the switch will darken the normally white page background, while clicking on it again will restore the page to normal.

Earth Hour began in March 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and over 2,000 businesses turned out their lights and took a stand against climate change.

It quickly became an annual global event as more than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011. — ELR. GMA News
