Facebook Home gets close to 1 million downloads

Barely a month after its launch, the "Facebook Home" app has attracted some one million downloads, a tech site reported Friday (Manla time).

 

Cory Ondrejka, director of mobile engineering at Facebook, said this was "in line" with their expectations when they launched the app.

 

"That's very much in line with our expectations for the launch ... We thought that was a large enough number to start getting data," Ondrejka said, according to a report on TechHive.com.

 

He noted putting Facebook updates in front of users - as what Facebook Home is doing - led to a 25-percent increase in the time users spend using Facebook.

 

"Facebook is already the most-used app on mobile devices, so being able to bump that is something we are very excited about," he added.

 

Once downloaded and installed, "Facebook Home" replaces the home screens of supported devices, allowing users to immediately see photos or updates from friends.

 

Many of its present users are early adopters, even as Facebook at least for now is not using its main app to promote Home. — TJD, GMA News
