Priest warns against amulet of Sto. Niño with an erection

Filipino Catholics were warned Tuesday against an amulet depicting the Santo Niño (Christ Child) with an erection, with a priest saying it may be connected to the occult.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines  Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue executive secretary Fr. Carlos Reyes said the amulet has dangers.

“Evil spirits will have a foothold on people who own [these amulets]. It is deceiving because at first glance, it looks like the Sto. Niño,” an article on the CBCP news site quoted him as saying.

He said he saw the image for the first time when someone asked him to bless what looked like an inch-high Sto. Niño made of brass.

But the image depicted the Christ Child when "an erect penis" that he said was “disproportionate in size with respect to the body.”

“It has something to do with the occult and…I must warn the bearer as to the dangers of carrying such image in their persons,” he said.

Reyes also said Msgr. Jay Bandojo, Vicar for Clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila who assists the Archdiocese of Manila Office of Exorcism, confirmed the image has links with the occult and evil spirits.

Thus, he said possessing amulets or playing spirit of the glass can make one susceptible to diabolical influences. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
