Social Media Phenomenon: Living in the AlDub Nation

Ever since Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) and Richard Faulkerson Jr. (screen name Alden Richards) graced the TV screens with their kilig tandem, people have been glued to their TV screens ever since. Reaching some of the highest rated episodes of Eat Bulaga, it is undeniable that the success of this “power couple” is anything but unreal.

Since their KalyeSerye was brought to life by Eat Bulaga, there’s been no stopping on their end from hitting the top social media trends of the day, both breaking local and international records.

Once again, AllFamous Digital used the power of social listening and took a dive into the social media phenomenon that is behind the popularity and success of AlDub. What was meant to be a simple noontime show skit is now taking over the majority of social media – and we’re here to show you why.

Eclipsing the Competition

TV Ratings and other metrics aside, the mentions about AlDub is clearly far greater than its closest competition. Using the best social listening technology (Radian6), it is apparent that AlDub takes over the competition with getting 99% (37,999,355) of the total number of mentions from September 1-21, 2015.

Part of the reason why this is relevant is because fans of AlDub are committed to hitting the Twitter trends when the show is on. Being the true fans that they are, they want to hit their goals and exceed millions upon millions of mentions every time a new episode of this popular KalyeSerye comes up.

While Twitter is a good source of success on the basis of trends, Radian6 also pulls mentions from all public online sources, including Facebook posts, blogs, forums, online news articles and many more. Pulling from this rich data, AlDub did not only dominate Twitter, but the entirety of social media and other online sources as well.
