The names and photos of the police officers involved in the operation that led to the death of Kian delos Santos have been released on Tuesday, with two of them admitting that they were carrying delos Santos in the controversial CCTV footage.
A day before the release of the information however, a screencap of a comment by a certain Aina Castillo went viral.
Castillo’s comment contained a photo of Vice President Leni Robredo with a man, whom she (Castillo) identified as the cop who shot delos Santos to death.
A quick comparison with the photos released on Tuesday shows that he is not one of the three police officers reportedly involved in the shooting incident.
Facebook user Lane Mathew Santos Calderon replied to the post and disputed Castillo's claims, stating that the man in the photo is his step dad.
Calderon via Facebook chat told GMA News Online that he has a copy of the photo and that he remembers the photo as a profile pic his step dad used sometime in June 2016.
On Tuesday evening, the Angono Public Information Office posted a clarification on Facebook. “Hindi po siya pulis at hindi din siya ang pumatay kay Kian.”
It added: “Ang kanyang picture po ay nagamit sa hindi magandang pamamaraan.”
Angono’s PIO editor Richard Gappi, speaking to GMA News Online on Wednesday said the man in the photo is an Angono resident who used to be a volunteer driver and staff of the municipality of Angono.
“Maraming nakakakilala sa kanya sa munisipyo kaya nuong naging viral na, naglabas na kami ng paglilinaw kasi hindi totoo yung mga balita,” Gappi said, adding the man wasn't a cop, he was a Black Nazarene devotee, and "maling-mali lang talaga."
Gappi added he could attest to the photograph: It happened at the lobby of Angono's Municipal Hall, while VP Robredo was on the campaign trail in 2016. He doesn’t know who took the photo, Gappi said he also doesn’t have the file of the photo but he was there.
On Facebook Wednesday, Angono’s PIO decided to identify the man, write a profile, and publish it on Facebook to clear his name better. He is Alberto Florentino III, 54 years old, and an Uber driver.
On its second post, the Angono PIO said Florentino has decided to file a complaint.
