Critics condemn dog owner for amateur c-section on toy poodle

A toy poodle owner claimed he had to cut open his dying pregnant dog to save the litter of puppies that were still inside her.

According to Tina Panganiban Perez's Saturday report on GMA 7 news program 24 Oras Weekend, the owner birthed five puppies by cutting his dog, Bubbles, open with a  pair of scissors and a knife.

Netizens initially complimented and congratulated the pet owner for saving the puppies.

However, the admiration turned into criticism after netizens realized what the dog owner had performed a crude Cesarean delivery on the poodle.

"That time, wala na talaga pero ni-revive namin siya...wala na talaga," the owner argued. "That time, hora de peligro na dahil 'yung mommy doggy is wala nang hangin sa loob.

"Wala nang time eh para itakbo pa," he emphasized.

The owner said that they posted the birthing online to ask for help with the puppies. They didn't expect the bashing they received, and especially not the death threats.

"Wala namang may kagustuhang mamatay 'yung mama dog namin eh. Kahit kami, nagluluksa kami sa kanya," Said the owner.

The owner said he planned to file complaints against those who bullied and threatened her online.

However, according to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the dog owner had broken the law by cutting Bubbles open.

"May violation of Animal Welfare Act doon.

Atty.

Bubbles' death was also condemned by the Philippine Toy Poodle Owners group given that the dog did not undergo the correct procedure for giving birth.

Though the details of the impromptu surgery remained unclear, the organization said that there was a suggestion of negligence, irresponsibility, and a lack of knowledge from the owner. — Kaela Malig/DVM, GMA News
