Student climbs mountain in search of signal to send school requirements

A student in Burias Island, Masbate has climbed a mountain in search of signal just to submit her academic requirements.

In a video posted on Twitter, Franz Berdida can be seen sitting in the dark with her laptop placed on a small stool in front of her.

She said she has been going up the mountain since March 14. The climb takes her around 30 minutes to one hour.

"Umakyat ng bundok for finals kahit gabing gabi na just to pass kasi ayokong ma IP or worse bumagsak," she said.

Franz is studying at a university in Intramuros, Manila. She was able to return home to Masbate the day before the community quarantine took effect in the National Capital Region.

"I am just one of those Filipino students trying to learn despite these present adversities," she said. "Despite the difficulties I will continue to comply and learn, regardless how hard it is."

Classes in many universities have been suspended ahead of the enhanced community quarantine due to the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Some switched to online classes and asked their students to digitally submit their classwork.

Others have announced that they will automatically give a passing grade to their students this semester.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines rolled out the deferred grade scheme and still expects their students to submit requirements. —MGP, GMA News
