Here’s why ‘Museo de Filipino’ is trending on TikTok, Twitter

You have probably seen “Museo de Filipino” trending on Twitter and TikTok, and you’re wondering what it is and why it’s been getting attention.

TikTok has become increasingly popular amid the quarantine with the fun and creative videos uploaded by users, but this time around some netizens decided to use the platform to share chilling yet educational videos related to Filipino key figures using the hashtag #MuseodeFilipino.

The videos begin with an “on” and “off” button and once it plays, the person in the video moves and recites dialogues while the thematic background and texts that narrate the story appear.

Aside from reenacting key personalities in Philippine politics and history, the creators also portrayed the lives of ordinary Filipino citizens who suffer or die due to injustices.

Among the many personalities portrayed were the late Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, Ferdinand Marcos, Gen. Gregorio del Pilar, Jose Rizal and some of the characters from his literary works including Maria Clara, Filipino school teacher and guerrilla commander in WWII Capt. Nieves Fernandes, and  Lapu-Lapu.

Other Filipino figures portrayed for #MuseodeFilipino include human rights worker Reina Mae Nasino, drug war casualty Kian delos Santos, and the late actress Pepsi Paloma.
