Dong Abay made a hilarious Benjie Paras joke in response to UP tagging

Dong Abay joined the bandwagon of University of the Philippines students and alumni taking to social media to share about their own UP "recruitment" experience.

While many said they often found themselves getting approached by religious groups or invited to free meals on campus, the OPM singer made a hilarious joke for his own entry.

"Nung nasa UP ako, di ako ni-recruit ng NPA. Ni-recruit ako ng UP Maroons at naging champion kami sa UAAP," he said on Facebook, poking fun at his resemblance with fellow alumnus Benjie Paras.

Nung nasa U.P. ako, di ako ni-recruit ng NPA. Ni-recruit ako ng U.P. Maroons at naging champion kami sa U.A.A.P.

Paras famously belonged to the Fighting Maroons team which won UP's only basketball title in the UAAP back in 1986.

His bald head and facial hair also happen to be the spitting image of Abay's own features.

Abay's post has drawn a lot of laugh reacts on Facebook, with many users calling him the "Tower of Power," Paras' moniker, and the only rookie Most Valuable Player in the UAAP.

The Department of National Defense recently terminated its 31-year-old agreement with UP, which bans the entry of military and police forces into the university without prior coordination with UP officials.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana cited information that the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army (CPP/NPA) are recruiting students inside UP campuses.

UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo said that the defense department needs to show proof of its claim, while President Danilo Concepcion said the termination of the agreement between UP and DND is "unnecessary and unwarranted."
