Netizens suggest other uses of face shield as government eases requirement

After President Rodrigo Duterte announced that the requirement to use face shields would be eased, netizens came up with ideas to still make it useful.

In a “24 Oras” report Thursday, one Facebook user suggested using it while chopping onions to avoid tears.

“Magagamit pa rin po ’yan ’pag nag-hiwa at nagbalat ka ng sibuyas,” said Michael Flores Tabunan.

Some commenters agreed with the government’s decision, saying the plastic material only added up to accumulated waste.

“Ang face shield, dagdag basura, dagdag gastos pa,” said a netizen as reported by Ian Cruz.

[The face shield is just additional garbage and expense.]

For others, people should decide on their own whether to use a face shield or not.

“We need to use all the possible resources for us to protect ourselves because the [threat] of Delta variant remains there anytime even anywhere. To become safer is our choice,” said a Facebook user.

“It’s time that we should make wearing of face shield voluntary. If they don’t want to wear face shield, let them be,” he added.

In Divisoria, only a few people were seen wearing their face shields, while store owners stopped getting more supplies.

“Malulugi ako. Mape-pending ’yan kaya papa-ubos ko na. Mag-face mask na lang ako,” said seller Mirasol Galang.

[I’ll lose money. It will just go on pending so I’ll just sell everything off and use face masks instead.]

Wearing of face shields, however, is still required in areas defined as closed spaces, such as groceries.

On Wednesday, Duterte said face shields would be required only in closed and crowded spaces and areas where there might be close contact.
