3 damaged Visayas churches removed from World Heritage tentative list

The UNESCO has removed three churches in the Visayas from its Tentative List of sites being considered for World Heritage status due to the damage the churches suffered due to natural disasters.

According to a report on Balita Pilipinas Ngayon, two colonial-era churches in Bohol and one in Eastern Samar were removed from the list.

The San Pedro Church in Loboc and the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon, both in Bohol, sustained heavy damage when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the island province in October last year. The Church of La Inmaculada Concepcion in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, was heavily damaged when Typhoon Yolanda swept through the region a month later.

All three churches have been designated National Historical Treasures by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts. — BM, GMA News
