MMFF 2016 entries to be screened until January 7 in selected cinemas

The Metro Manila Film Festival 2016 executive committee has been successful in its mission to extend the screening of the eight official entries until Saturday, January 7.

Instead of officially closing the MMFF 2016 on Tuesday, January 3, the entries will continue to be shown in ten selected SM cinemas.

According to the film festival's spokesperson Noel Ferrer in an Instagram post shortly before the announcement, the committee is also negotiating with other cinema owners for a similar extension.

“We thank everyone who made this year's edition a groundbreaking success. And we hope that you will continue to make your voices heard so that these films will be enjoyed all over the Philippines beyond January 3rd,” he said.

The MMFF executive committee are also planning to pursue an extensive school caravan to make the films accessible to students in different parts of the country.

Ferrer added, “Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino. Ipagpatuloy natin ang Magandang Pagbabago!”

Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Liza Diño also appealed to cinema owners to extend the screening of the eight MMFF 2016 entries, promising extensive support from the agency.

“I promise, Film Development Council of the Philippines will abide by what you need to address the marketing and distribution concerns of our independent film community. I promise to enjoin all stakeholders to work together towards adopting best practices in understanding the business of filmmaking,” she said.
