International Museum Day is on May 18 — here's how you can squeeze in a visit to 9 museums


International Museum Day is happening on Saturday, May 18, and this early, we're seeing a lot of special events and offers from museums all around Metro Manila.

If like us, you also want to visit as many museums as possible to get a hold of these special offers, well, we're in luck.

According to the LRT-1, nine museums are accessible through its line. 

Start at the Gil Puyat Station, where just one jeepney ride away is (1) the Yuchengco Museum, where the huge art collection of Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco is on display.

Here, his distinguished career as a businessman, diplomat, collector, philanthropist, patron of the arts, and advocate for education in the Philippines and beyond is highlighted. (RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue cor. Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue. 10am-6pm)

The next station, Vito Cruz, is accessible to a lot of museums. The (2) Metropolitan Museum of Art where at the moment an exhibit on German Architectural Design as well as Swedish Embassy's Fashion Revolution is on view. (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex, Roxas Boulevard. 10am - 5:30pm)

There is also (3) the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design Manila inside De La Salle-College of St. Benilde's School of Design and Arts, where contemporary art, and other cultural undertakings that show the possibilities of technology and new media  are front and center. (DLS-CSB, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-2pm)

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas boasts of its (4) Money Museum, which is designed to "walk" the visitor through galleries each dedicated to a specific historical period of the country. (Inside the BSP Main Complex, A. Mabini St. corner P. Ocampo St. Malate. Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm)  

And then, there is (5) the Upside Down Museum, which features 15 upside down galleries and counting, including the Leaning House, Floating Corner, Upside Down House, Mirror House, Giant Sneaker – Giant Headset, The World of Comfort , The Inverted Steel Bridge. (CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay. Tuesday-Sunday 11am-9pm)

At the United Nations Avenue station, you will find four more museums to explore: (6) The National Museum of Fine Arts where Juan Luna's legendary work Spolarium is housed (P. Burgos Drive, Rizal Park, Manila. Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm), the (7)  National Museum of Anthropology and Natural History, where Lolong's skeleton is on view, the (8) newly renovated National Planetarium (Padre Burgos Avenue, Ermita, Manila. 10am-5pm) and finally (9) the brand new Museo de Intramuros(Arzobispo Street cor. Anda Street, Intramuros. Tuesday-Sunday, 9am-5pm)
